Traditional Bulgarian Hand Knit Baby Clothes with Kalinka

As parents, we always want the best for our children so they can grow up happy and healthy. And a big part of providing for children is ensuring that they have clothes to wear that are high quality, comfortable, and child-approved. And while it can be easy to duck into the closest discount children’s clothing stores to pick up whatever kid’s fashion is on the clearance rack, we know that taking the easy way out doesn’t always produce the best results.

Instead, take the time to shop around and find clothing made by designers who truly care about each and every item they produce.  Far from just being about having the trendiest styles, designer kids’ clothes are generally higher quality and have had a lot more time and attention given to the final piece than something that is mass-produced. That’s why we love sharing designers with you who we know take great pride in their apparel and don’t cut corners in its production.

One such designer is the talented creator of children’s apparel brand Kalinka, Nora Docheva. She is the mastermind behind all of Kalinka’s designs and is the mom of three—so she knows a thing or two about what makes high-quality baby clothes. It all started when she knitted her first sweater for her little ones. After knitting one piece she never set her needles down and within a few months had completed her first collection.

As demand for her hand knitted creations increased, she decided to expand her business so that more parents would be able to have the same lovingly-made garments for their children. Currently, Kalinka clothing is all hand knitted by Bulgarian grandmothers, using Merino wool imported from Peru. This wool is known for its luxurious softness, making it perfect for babies’ sensitive skin. And each of the “grannies,” as they’re affectionately called, comes from a long family history of knitting and has great skill to guarantee each handcrafted piece is beautiful.

Kalinka children’s fashion is inspired by romanticism and traditions of the past. The designs are simple and timeless with a healthy dash of whimsy thrown in for good measure. We’re sharing a few of our favorite Kalinka pieces below, but be sure to check out our full collection of Kalinka designer kid’s clothing to see which pieces you think will be perfect for your little bundle!

For those chilly fall and winter days, a hat for your baby is a must when you’re on the go. And we can’t think of one more adorable than the cream and rust Camellia Bonnet. This hand-knitted hat features darling rust polka dots that provide great contrast to the cream colored bonnet. And the tassels are perfect for securing the hat to ensure it stays on and keeps your baby warm.

We really can’t get over how cute the Kalinka brick red ruffled cardigan is. The color is bright and features a mix of shades that give it personality. And the adorable ruffled peplum detail along the hem makes it dressier than the average children’s cardigan, meaning it’s perfect for holiday get-togethers with family and friends that are just around the corner. You’ll want to sit and snuggle with your little one all day in this ultra-soft sweater.

Did we mention Kalinka also makes baby overalls? Because we think you’d be hard pressed to find something your baby looks cuter in than Kalinka grey ravena overalls. They’re perfect for pairing over just about any shirt because of their neutral color, so your baby can wear them with a variety of outfits. But we know that whatever you pair them with, the overalls will be the star of the show. They feature darling buttons to hold the overalls in place as well as button details on the front panel that just adds to the cuteness factor.

And those three pieces are just the tip of the Kalinka clothing iceberg! You’ll find so many adorable pieces that you’ll want to add to your baby’s wardrobe. Nothing beats the quality and craftsmanship of clothing made by hand. And when you pair that with the extreme softness of the Merino wool used for each piece, you’ll be so in love. Plus, they’re all available right at your fingertips, meaning you can shop for kids’ boutique clothing right from the comfort of your own home. You know you can’t pass that up!
